Erasmus+ webinar: Trauma-Informed Housing with Support
Date: 30th July 2025
Time: 11.00 – 12.00 CET (10am – 11am Irish Time)
Place: ZOOM
Homelessness and trauma are deeply interconnected, This is best illustrated by the work of Peter Cockersell (2018) in the book ”Social Exclusion: Compound Trauma and Recovery: Applying Pychology, Pychotherapy and PIE to Homelessness, Compund Trauma and Recovery”. The unforunate reality is that people who experience of homelessness have been impacted by poverty and the actual experience of being homeless. The pattern exists also that for nmany people who have expereinced homelessness they have also be impacted by adverse childhood experiences.
Historically, homeless services have focused on meeting immediate needs, often without fully addressing the lasting effects of trauma. But this is changing. As the field progresses, service providers are beginning to recognise their role in not just responding to crisis but also fostering long-term healing.
For over 30 years, Sophia has supported people on their journey out of homelessness. Our trauma-informed approach acknowledges the profound impact of homelessness, poverty, and social exclusion. What makes Sophia unique is our unwavering focus on helping individuals move into a home of their own as quickly as possible, because we believe healing begins with housing.
The webinar is part of an ongoing development and research project on the application of Housing First policies in Europe, funded by the European Commission's Erasmus+ program. The project is led by Sophia Housing from Ireland. Other partner organisations are Arrels Fundació (Spain), Housing First Berlin (Germany), and Y-Säätiö (Finland).
Join us for this inspiring webinar to explore how trauma-informed care is reshaping homeless services—and how lasting change begins with understanding.
